Google Makes Website Making Easy With “Material Design Lite” and Free Website Builder

Google introduced its concept of material design and its specification to make the user interfaces more beautiful and uniform on devices all screen sizes. To make the websites more Material Design friendly, Google has released Material Design Lite (MDL) which comprises of vanilla CSS, HTML, and JavaScript.
Google Developers have introduced this tool that will make websites look more like Android apps. This is a front-end web framework for making websites with Material Design speculations. Since theintroduction of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Android OS sports a new minimalistic design which is slowly being seen in all Android apps including WhatsApp.

This Material Design Lite framework makes it easy for the website developers to use it with any of the rapid changing landscape of front-end tool chains. It has a very small size of ~27KB gzipped, thus it’s a relief if you are worried about the size of the code.
Material Design Lite’s component library includes the common user interface elements of material design that include check boxes, text input fields, buttons, sliders, cards, tabs and spinners.
It includes five templates that are: the android.com skin, a dashboard, a blog, a standalone article page, and a text-heavy web page.

How to use Google’s Material Design Lite?

The code used for Material Design implementation is a small library of components that would be used on web pages and apps. It is written in Sass using BEM and it could be modified according to need. It’s available on GitHubor you can get the complete Material Design Framework framework from Google.
You can pick elements for customized design or you can use Google’s theme customizer that allows you to make changes to the framework before you use it.
Google’s Material Design Lite will app in all modern browsers that include Chrome, Opera. Firefox and Microsoft Edge and Safari.
Given the fact that this is based on Material Design, Google wants everyone to build websites like these. The search engine company wants its customers to serve clean, simple and good looking pages. As the WebDesignerNerd mentions, most successful frameworks are successful because of their flexibility. Here, Google has given its mandate that Material Design is the best and it favors this specific design of web pages.
Google’s Material Design Lite offers a lot to learn and it’s a great design guide but it’s limited application won’t make people very exciting.

No Network, No Data Pack: Messaging App Jott Is Your New Dream App

Only when we thought there was no need for yet another messaging app, a hot new messaging app is in news and for all good reasons. Jott, an instant messaging app lets you send data and texts without an internet connection.

Jott uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios to create a locked network with other devices that are within 100-feet of each other. Jared Allgood, CEO and co-founder of Jott, said that the app targeted  the teens, and the entire customer base of Jott consists of 13 to 18-year olds. Jott has been a hot commodity with the U.S. teenagers and kids and that success helped Jott close a $1.8 million seed funding round from numerous protruding venture capital firms.
This messaging app startup has doubled its users to half a million active users in March and its user base is increasing with a rate of 15,000 to 20,000 users per day.
In the future, Allgood believes that Jott could be used for more than just teen texting, envisaging it as a possible lifesaver during a natural disaster. Since the connections are devised through the device, Joyy messages will get routed through in emergency situations and cases when cell phone towers go down and texts can no longer be sent through phone.
Allgood elucidated: “You could be on top of Mount Everest or on an airplane completely disconnected and yet still be able to send text messages.”

How Jott Works?

The usual text messages are first transmitted from your cell phone to the nearest cell tower and then they are directed to the person you are texting. On the other hand, Jott sends texts without any service provider by using something called mesh network that works on Bluetooth low energy (or router) that has a range of 100 feet. While instant messaging apps are the seeing an exponential growth, the usual texting is still common in schools as the teenagers want to make new friends but not each one of them has a data plan.
Explaining the privacy measures, Jayson Ahlstrom, Jott’s COO and co-founder said that Jott provides a level of comfort and safety measure and takes care of the teen’s security interests.
It would be interesting to see if Jott changes the game of texting in near future.

20-year-old Trojan King Revealed, Maker of over 100 Banking Trojans

A 20-year-old Brazilian kid has been revealed as the maker of more than 100 banking trojans by the security firm Trend Micro. He is known online by the name of ‘Lordfenix’, ‘Filho de Hacker’ and ‘Hacker’s Son.’
The security firm writes that a 20-year-old college student from Tocantins, Brazil known by the name Lordfenix has become Brazil’s top malware maker. He has developed this reputation by giving birth to more than 100 online banking trojans. Most of these banking trojans were sold by him for about $300 each.
He is a computer science student who earned this money between April 2013 and targeted banks like Bank of Brazil, HSBC Brazil and Caixa. He began his career by asking for hacking advice in forums and today he is found offering free version of highly-efficient banking Trojan source code to the forum members in the underground world.
One of the Trojans detected called TSPY_BANKER.NJH identifies and wakes up when a user enters its target banks’ URL. Then it closes the active browser window and displays an error message to open a new fake browser windows. This is so smooth and unnoticeable that user doesn’t have a clue.
Now the user enters the login username and password in the fake window and the trojan sends back the information to the attacker. For more protection, the trojan terminates the process GbpSV.exe associated with the popular security software G-Buster Browser Defense, a security program used by many Brazilian banks.
Lordfenix claims that these free versions can steal credentials of bank customers of four different banks. On the other hand, the paid $300 versions target more banks using the tricks to disable the popular security software popular in Brazil. The security company has posted a picture of programmer’s Facebook page that shows a big pile of local currency on his bed.

Apart from his expertise in this area, the other factors that helped Lordfenix were the facts that more than half-population of Brazil uses internet for transaction and dealing with digital crime isn’t a top priority in the country.

Will the Leap Second on June 30 Break the Internet?

It’s just an extra stupid second, right? Well, it isn’t that simple. According to several computer experts, this extra tiny second could wreck the systems powering the internet.

This extra second is added to the clocks to accommodate the slowing of the Earth’s rotation by about two-thousandths of a second per day. This extra second is added to the atomic clocks that uses the vibrations within atoms to measure time and is the most reliable measure of time.
So, this leap second is added to the atomic time to make the things fine. Now let’s talk about the part where things get a little scary?
Back in 2012, when a leap second was added to the world clocks, the systems got confused and reported instances of hyperactivity. Due to this websites like Reddit, FourSquare, Gawker, StumbleUpon, LinkedIn, Yelp and more sites collapsed. Some flights were cancelled and some were delayed.
According to Gawker, the Linux creator Linus Torvalds said that people shouldn’t worry about that scale of outrage this year but he didn’t rule out the possibility of some minor failures. He said, “Last time it happened, people spent some effort making sure it was fine afterwards. Hopefully that all stuck.”

This time, companies are saying that they are prepared and companies like Google are adding fractions of a second from past few years so that they don’t have to make a sudden jump. Google site reliability engineer Noah Maxwell and Michael Rothwell called this a “clever way of handling things.” Reports have been published in the media highlighting the danger of the systems that rely on Google’s method.
However, some nations including the US said that they want to get rid of the leap seconds and keep the clocks out-of-sync instead. This will have its own problems as the clocks will be eventually out of sync for minutes and, or maybe for hours in future.
On the other hand countries like UK want to keep adding the leap second.
According to a calculation, without a leap second, there would be a difference of two to three minutes by the year 2100.
